Research Topics

My research interests lie in the broad spectrum of Data SCIENCE. I work mainly on modernising business intelligence by considering the challenges posed by the Big Data phenomenon, especially, problems of data heterogeneity.

My research is also oriented towards NoSQL databases, especially graph databases and document stores. I also work on applying machine learning techniques to heterogenous data to extract and draw useful insights. I apply my work to diverse applications, with a special focus of question-answer systems (e.g. stack exchange) and educational data. I am also more and more interested in crossing NLP and other AI techniques with Big Data and Business Intelligence for better data-driven decision making. I am very passionate about applying my research activities to different domains, mainly education and health. I am seeking research collaborations, with labs and research institutions worldwide on common research interests. All collaboration proposals are welcome!! Along with my research activities, I have been teaching computer science modules for 20 years. I am mainly involved in teaching data-related courses, namely databases, information systems, data warehousing, data mining and scientific writing.
